Check it out, fam! American rhyme-slinger Fly Anakin is back with his second feat, "The Forever Dream," and this thing is not just any album, but a salt storm of musical vibes. Our boy started his musical trip in Richmond, Virginia, and he made the first waves in the scene about a decade ago. The real fire came in 2018, when he participated in Ankhlejohn's masterpiece "Van Ghost" and really stepped into the spotlight. And man, after his teaming with Pink Siifu on the dope album "FlySiifu's," his name was cut cake in the underground.
His debut album "Frank," which dropped three years ago, was a personal ode to his father. Now Fly Anakin is back to share his "Forever Dream" with us. And believe me when I say, this album is pure magic. It starts with the track "Good Clothes," where he really explored his mindset during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and how he grabs what's coming to him without mercy. No apologies necessary!
Then we have "Teen Summit," where the drums are taken away by the skills of Quelle Chris, then Fly Anakin rebuilds the structure nicely. On "My N***a," he drops a brotherhood track with Big Kahuna O.G. and $ilkMoney. Here they sample "Awakening of Our Senses" by Argo - straight up classic homage. Then he drops bars on "Lil One," a real talk about someone in debt who still wants something from you.
With Iojii on the track "Check on Me," we are in a drumless chipmunk soul vibe, with August Fanon's beats. They ask their crushes to check out how they're doing. "Not Too Shabby," on the other hand, is a team-up with Nickelus F, Quelle Chris and $ilkMoney and brings together four heavy-hitters who spit about their dreams almost coming true. "Lord Forgives, I Hold Grudges" is richly salted with the features of Denmark Vessey & Pink Siifu. And "The Times" provides a sharp flow over its solid squad.
With "Forever Dream," Fly Anakin drops a drumless, Van Gogh-like sonic painting. "Corner Pocket," led by legendary producer The Alchemist with BBYMutha, gives them all the credit for the money pouring in. On "YOUGOTME!!!" after a comical "Dr. Phil" skit, he goes all-in on the feelings after heartache, and the album's closing track, with the soulful cut "Say Thank You," lets Pink Siifu and Turich Benjy be truly tastefully grateful.
In "The Forever Dream," Fly Anakin unpacks his most experimental and luxurious vibes to date. It's a collection of brilliant underground hip-hop that is so smooth you sometimes feel like you're being swept away by its genius. We, heads of "Keep the Salt," dig these beats just a little more than "Frank," because it's a journey of creative instrumental bangers from laid-back to powerful - like a masterful magic trick. This album gets a solid 8 out of 10 from us! What do you think? Jam on and keep it salty!
