Blizzard Takes Big Steps Forward with ‘Devilish Killer’

Blizzard is back to salt the game with its second EP, titled “Devilish Killer.” This producer and rapper from Detroit, Michigan, continues to surprise. After a couple of instrumental projects as well as the earlier full-length debut “Duel with Death” on which he showed off his mic skills, he now picks up the pace. And he doesn't do so with a half-empty glass, but with an EP that lays some serious salt on the shelves!

The title track, with which Blizzard sets the tone, is self-produced and feels like a nuclear explosion after a 25 kill-streak in the iconic game ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Earth-shattering power, in other words! Next, ’Shadowboxing“ comes in with boom bap vibes that you feel in your soul. Blizzard talks about brawling and getting your knives ready - true hip-hop heads understand that you don't want to breed with this guy.

On “Midas,” Blizzard spits bars about all those who try to level up with his skills, but that's a tough challenge, bro. On “Deadly Venom,” with a soul sample production sauce from Foul Mouth, he introduces himself as a walking guillotine. “The Executioner” closes the EP by doing his thing with the buttons of a gaming controller and blowing the whole thing up.

Whereas on “Iron Tiger of Shaolin” Blizzard let his voice be heard more often, for “Devilish Killer” he partly takes a different approach. While he still produces a few tracks himself, he leaves much of the beats to others and focuses entirely on his rapping. No featurings required, purely his own vibe. And we think that's salty and fresh!

The boom bap productions are sample-heavy, as always, but it's dope to hear Blizzard at the top of his game right now. He's at his very best when he's busy with mic and lyrics, and that's exactly what we want to see more of. With “Devilish Killer,” Blizzard shows that he can kill without features just as well as with them. And it must be said: that self-reliant style makes this EP have a rock-solid flavour.

This release undoubtedly deserves an 8 out of 10 on the salt scale. Highly recommended for anyone who loves straight-up hip-hop.
