Lowrider from Nipsey Hussle's ‘Higher’ music video to be auctioned
A custom 1959 Chevrolet Impala, featured in the music video ‘Higher’ by Nipsey Hussle and DJ Khaled from 2019, will be auctioned on August 14 at Mecum Auctions with an estimated value between $175,000 and $225,000. The car not only features technical specifications such as a hydraulic suspension system but also holds great cultural significance due to its connection to Nipsey Hussle, who was murdered shortly after the video was filmed. The proceeds from the sale will determine how much collectors are willing to pay for this iconic piece of hip-hop history.
Nipsey Hussle’s legacy could push a custom 1959 Chevrolet Impala toward the two-ton mark this week. The iconic lowrider will go under the hammer at Mecum Auctions on Friday.
The baby-blue Impala isn’t just any old classic car. The car played a leading role in DJ Khaled’s 2019 ‘Higher’ music video, which featured Nipsey alongside John Legend. According to the auction house, the estimated selling price is between $175,000 and $225,000.
The Sport Coupe is registered as Lot F120 and will be auctioned on Friday, August 14, at Mecum Monterey 2026 at the Del Monte Golf Course in California. Its value lies not only in its engineering—it is the cultural significance that makes this car special.
Khaled filmed ‘Higher’ shortly before Nipsey was shot and killed on March 31, 2019, outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles. The video was released in May 2019 as a tribute. Khaled announced that the proceeds from the track would go to Nipsey’s children.
The collaboration appeared on Khaled’s *Father of Asahd* album and won a Grammy in 2020 for Best Rap/Sung Performance. That same evening, Nipsey received a second posthumous Grammy: Best Rap Performance for ‘Racks In The Middle’ featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy.
Now, a collector with deep pockets can get their hands on one of the most recognizable pieces from that ‘Higher’ visual.
Under the hood is a 283-cubic-inch V-8 with camel-hump cylinder heads and a Turbo Hydramatic 350 automatic transmission. Power steering, power brakes, and an aluminum radiator come standard. But it’s the hydraulic suspension that gives this Impala its true lowrider character. Multiple batteries and hydraulic equipment in the trunk power a system that, via the dashboard, can lift the car and make it bounce.
