Daz Dillinger Expands His Legacy with ‘Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back 3’

Daz Dillinger, the veteran of the West Coast rap scene from Long Beach, California, has just dropped his 22nd solo LP. And man, this release is so salty it almost gives you high blood pressure! Daz, related to artists like Brandy and Ray J, and living legend Snoop Dogg, grew up in the scandalous games of the rap world via Death Row Records. That was where he developed his skills on the turntables and mic under the watchful eye of Dr. Dre. Together with Kurupt, he formed Tha Dogg Pound and delivered the world bangers that still give you those good old school vibes. His first solo record ‘Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back’ put him on the map back in ’98, and now part three of this trilogy pops harder than ever. Everyone will get those throwback feelings from his debut again this year!

The track “It's Automatic” starts with a combination of trap, rap rock and gangsta rap where Daz lets it be known that he is always ready. “We Shoot Bacc” carries this gangsta mentality further; he is not afraid to send bullets back to whoever fired them. “Initiation” invites you into battle in a world where loyalty counts and weakness is not tolerated. The vibe remains strong as he brings glory to g-funk with “B4 I Let Go” and claims West's support.

“Better Get It Right” is a gospel-like track about keeping yourself on track when you've lost everything, and “Glock 19z & Caskets” brings you that old skool West Coast feel as he keeps his confidant, the Glock, with him anywhere up to six feet under. In “It's a Murder Rap,” Daz is ready to chess the whole rap game, then “Kidnap, Robbery & Homicide” further details his criminal adventures on a g-funk beat.

On the other side of the record, “I Can't Fucc wit U” gives a sneer at everyone who cares only about the money and throwing each other under the bus. “What U Really Want” is Daz's way of saying just grow up if you want something from him. “Get Money on a Bad Day” spreads positive vibes by indicating that, even on a bad day, there are always ways to earn that paper. “In My 64,” in turn, is an ode to his beloved Impala, a classically peppery track with car pride.

The final song of the trilogy, “Fucc Y'all,” calls out in a rebellious tone anyone trying to stop Daz from shining. After the Beefy Loc skit, he closes “We Gangsta” old skool with a gangsta rap banger, reminiscent of the days when shots were still being discharged daily in his neighborhood.

Recently, there were claims that Daz had a beef with Snoop Dogg and that this record would be a diss to him. But Daz himself has said it's more about his history with Death Row Records under Suge Knight. The aggressiveness of ‘Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back 3’ feels fresher than his previous volume and shows that Daz is working on closure rather than conflict. A fine 8 out of 10 for this salty LP!
