Hip-hop veteran DJ Fresh from California has made a masterstroke by joining forces with New York word wizard and Jamla Records artist, The Musalini. This time, they have created a salty piece of art with Musalini's 10th studio album. Since 2018, Musalini has ignited the underground scene, starting with his debut mixtape "Musalini Season. This was followed by a number of albums and tapes before he found his niche with TCF Music Group. With projections such as 'Return of the Oro' and collaborations with 38 Spesh and 9th Wonder, he has left a solid impression. He already blew us over last year with 'Mackaroni' and 'The Pierre Hotel,' but now he raises the bar a little higher with 'Live & Let Fly.'
The album kicks off with "Late Nite," where piano sounds are followed by a thick boom bap beat, telling their 'baby girl' to get everything out of life. "Moneyyyyyy" follows with a sensitive ode to his ride or die, while "Speeding" justifies his lack of patience with a smooth beat. On "Player's Ball," Planet Asia and Silent Snipers join Mu$ to present a funkier sound, as if they were born on step nights.
Izzy Hott jumps on "Double Life" to warn listeners: know what you're getting into, while samples of soul support the mood. "Good Game" hits the trap spheres and talks about straight-facts with ladies. Meanwhile, "Polo Scarf" adds a jazzy touch and "Old Soul" emphasizes that time costs money on a bed of soulful tones.
The album's eponymous track, featuring O Finess, maintains the funky vibe, while "Red Eye" focuses on waking up on the West Coast after a flight. With "Fly Zone" featuring John Dutch, they entitle themselves as the flyest in the game. "Can't Buy Love" closes the story, recalling the preciousness of life.
The album combines DJ Fresh's west coast vibe with Musalini's signature east coast bars, creating a golden combo. It is as if Kool G Rap and DJ Polo's iconic work has been given a new look in which both regions bring their unique sound together flawlessly. The disappointments of "The Pierre Hotel" are completely made up for with "Live & Let Fly. With a spitdope timing of 33 and a half minutes, this release is a must for your playlist. In short, DJ Fresh and The Musalini have found their groove and we are thoroughly enjoying it. We give it a big 7 out of 10. But hey, what do you think? Is this record salty enough for your taste?
