DOOM's Notebooks Back With Family After Legal Battle

The salty drama surrounding MF DOOM's valuable notebooks has finally come to an end. A lawsuit that kept the hip-hop scene open on the edge of seat has been concluded between his widow, Jasmine Dumile Thompson, and former Stones Throw label boss Eothen "Egon" Alapatt. On Friday, Thompson shared in an Instagram post that they have come to a chill settlement. "Finally we can close this salty chapter," Thompson wrote. "There have been many stories circulating over time, some pretty much taken out of context. Although we had some struggles, we recognize that Egon kept valuable notebooks from DOOM and are grateful that we now have them back as part of the settlement."

The clash revolved around 32 notebooks full of DOOM's lyrics, track concepts and other creative stuff. In October 2023, Thompson dragged Egon into federal court in California. She accused him of stealing these notebooks and not wanting to give them back. The charge was a cocktail of copyright infringement, fraud and unjust enrichment. Thompson claimed Egon took possession of the notebooks back in 2016, while DOOM was unable to return to the U.S. due to immigration issues.

Under the hashtags #justicefordoom, there was quite a buzz online about this cattle-riding case. Egon, on the other hand, had his own big words. He stated in November 2023 that the complaints against him were part of a "defamation campaign" by Thompson. "The charges is an extension of a long-standing attack on Alapatt's integrity and reputation," Egon's legal team stated. They claimed that he bought the books from DOOM's longtime landlord after he left.

All eyes were on this outcome, as the books contained lyrics for classics such as Operation Doomsday, Madvillainy and MM...FOOD. Not to mention, there were also some unheard tracks hidden in this golden oldie. Egon does not wish to participate further in the beef, he added, "DOOM was a dear friend and without a doubt one of the best artists animal have been. My intention was always to guard his musical heritage."

With this agreement, there is once again some hope to celebrate DOOM's musical legacy. With this, Jasmine retains control over how these creative treasures will be shared with the world, cementing his continuous influence on music and culture. We at "Keep the Salt" can't wait to see how the story of the "metal faced villain" continues. The only thing that is straight is that his powerful flow and salty lyrics no one will ever forget. What do you think of this salty breakthrough? Will DR. DOOM restored to the honor he deserves? Drop your thoughts in the comments, we're curious!
