Double Dragon is back in the game, salting the underground scene to the fullest with their new project. This super duo consists of Bukshot, the emcee from Louisville, Kentucky and founder of Mobstyle Music, and Kung Fu Vampire, the gothic hop pioneer from San Jose, California. These guys have already joined forces again to treat us to their second joint masterpiece, "Big Trouble with Double Dragon. The chemistry between these two legends is now legendary, having already made their mark with fat collaborations since its inception in 2021.
The album begins with the powerful intro "Dragons of the Black Pool," followed by the track "Big Trouble," produced by MIKE SUMMERS aka Seven. With a Chinese sample and horrorcore vibes, this track feels like a shot of adrenaline, with lyrics about the pleasure of bloodshed. "Ruthless" brings us brutal rap work after a four-year silence - now that's real ruthlessness. And then "Out the Mud" with a guest appearance by C-Mob which is all about pulling yourself up from nothing, while "Creatures" speaks of the lasting impact Double Dragon will leave in your mind.
On "Nemesis Me" we check out how to be your own worst enemy, with a recognizable sample that keeps coming back in the chorus. The track "Mushroom Clouds" hits like a bomb and is all about turning up the volume. Next we have "Gods of War" with Str8jaket using trap metal elements to let you know we are in an apocalyptic world. "Lurkers" shows us that Double Dragon are the creators, while advising you to respect the shooter.
"In the Void" grabs you with images of black clouds and white noise. This flows seamlessly into "Where the Pieces Fit," with Buk Norris seeking forgiveness and trying to put the puzzle pieces in place. The vibe of "Sun Don't Shine" featuring Gorilla Voltage brings your karmic energy to the door, and then "Cooler in a Coffin" strikes a dark tone that you'll be totally absorbed in.
With "Never Say Die" come great pianos and bells that make the track infectious, perfect for nostalgia for the days of Saturday cartoons and the golden days of wrestling. Finally, "Black Smoke" warns where unleashed bears end up and "Stranger Things" featuring Joey Cool pops out the album with a nod to the popular Netflix show in honor of its latest season.
The album is a tribute to the 80s, with references that longtime fans are sure to appreciate. The "Big Trouble in Little China" vibes and mysterious Easter eggs make the record an extra salty experience. The production and lyrical level of the record make you unable to stop listening. Conclusion: This is pure hip-hop magic, a big 8/10! If you are lover of nostalgia and brutally fat beats, this record is exactly what you are looking for.
