Eto from Rochester, New York and Queens-emcee Flee Lord join forces once again for their third joint studio album. These two icons have made their mark on the modern east coast underground hip-hop scene and their paths have crossed several times before. Most notably on their fall 2019 album "RocAmeriKKKa" and its follow-up "RocAmeriKKKa II" dropped on Devil's Night the following year. Both emcees have followed their own solo paths for the past three and a half years. But now it's time to finally complete the trilogy.
The album's intro is pure Flee Lord talking over a slow beat with a psychedelic twist about his original state-of-mind: you wear it or you simply buy it. On "Cash Conversion," we see Eto and Flee Lord come together over a mellow but dusty beat produced by Eto himself. Here they don't mince words and shoot at everything and everyone with sharp words. "Digi Scales" featuring Conway the Machine brings pianos into the mix to riff on their days in the drug trade, while "Broken Phone Deals" incorporates a funky organ and admits that the fast life hasn't changed them.
"Kitchen," along with NEMS, keeps the boombap vibe alive, re-singing that Pyrex boy life just before "Power," which boasts in a menacing tone that they are always on fire without guidance. "Zip of Badu," featuring Vel Nine, unites the three to shyly hold their jaws together about money matters, while "Moral of Struggle" featuring Starz Coleman focuses on the lessons of hardship and struggle. "Self Crowned," featuring Mummz, offers perhaps my favorite beat on the album, created by godBLESSbeatz, and "The Ones That Stayed" produced by DJ Green Lantern is a shout-out to those who have always remained loyal.
While Eto took on all the production work for "RocAmeriKKKa II," "RocAmeriKKKa III" is a return to the roots of the original "RocAmeriKKKa." This time they have chosen to invite other producers to create the musical landscapes, resulting in a chemistry as highly regarded as their solo work. These two artists have continued to develop since the end of 2010, and it shines through on this release. Be sure not to miss their live show at The Paramount in Los Angeles on July 18, a night that is a must-see for RocAmeriKKKa fans.
With a solid score of 8 out of 10, this album is steeped in salt and not to be missed by the real heads. Don't miss the chance to experience this legendary collaboration for yourself!
