Yo, hip-hop legends of the underground, take a listen: Miz Korona is back in the game and this lady shows that she keeps that Detroit spirit high and alive. After a three and a half year break, she's back with her third EP called “...I Forgive Me.” And yes, she is throwing a big dose of salt back into the scene with this release - a comeback you can say hello to!
Looking back on her career, Miz Korona dropped her debut album “The Injection” in 2010, with Chanes behind the controls. A decade later, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, she surprised us with the EP “The Virus,” followed by “The Healer & The Heartbreaker” two years later. This birthday track “...I Forgive Me” can be found on her Bandcamp, and almost everything on this record is put together by herself. A true self-made woman, love that!
In terms of tracks, the collaboration with Neco Redd in “Echoes of My Heart” brings summer vibes with a guitar that makes your soul nice and smooth. On the title track, she asks for self-forgiveness from a higher power, really raw and straight from the heart. “Space” takes you on a boom bap adventure, like she's floating through the universe. And then there's “Last Goodbye” that gets your storytelling antenna all fired up.
And yes, “Melody of the Sun” is one of the glasses on the list, in our opinion. Those boom bap beats are always a treat! While “Weather the Storm,” featuring Na Bonsai and once again Neco Redd, develops just as loosely toward a track about self-power and self-reliance.
In addition to the tracks, there has already been talk of a follow-up EP called “Travel in Peace,” dedicated to her mother. Of course, we look forward to that with salty interest. Miz Korona's growth as a producer is undeniable. That she started from scratch in the summer of 2021 and is now putting together such dope beats is pure dedication and shows how she is diving deeper and deeper into her artistry.
All in all, this EP is a delightful treat to celebrate Miz Korona's birthday with. An engaging mix of introspection and musical innovation.
