Passin’ Me By: Salty 90s hip-hop classic by The Pharcyde

In March 1993, The Pharcyde dropped their second single, ‘Passin’ Me By,’ through Delicious Vinyl Records. This track was the second single from their 1992 debut album, ‘Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde.

The beat, produced by J-Swift, is a masterpiece of sampling. He used ‘Summer in the City’ by Quincy Jones, ‘125th Street Congress’ by Weather Report and ‘Are You Experienced?’ by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, among others.

The four emcees of The Pharcyde - Bootie Brown, Slimkid3, Imani and Fatlip - spit about their school days and the crushes that broke their hearts time and again. In the black-and-white music video, we see the crew in the back seat of a car or rapping behind a fence, all turned upside down.

‘Passin’ Me By’ became a hit, reaching the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart the week of July 10, 1993. Pitchfork Media placed the track at No. 41 in their ‘Top 200 Tracks of the 90s.

This release is so salty it's unbelievable how dope! It remains one of the most iconic tracks of the ’90s and a must-listen for any hip-hop fan.

So, if you haven't checked out ‘Passin’ Me By’ yet, it's time to feel those salty vibes and immerse yourself in this timeless classic.
