RJ Payne, who you may know better as Reign Man, has dropped his 15th EP, and it's another salty addition to his impressive discography. This New York emcee and acclaimed battle rapper has already salted the game with 23 mixtapes, 12 more EPs and four full-length albums. And let's not forget that Benny the Butcher once signed him to Black Soprano Family Records. Benny not only runs an indie label that is growing like crazy, but also provides RJ with the platform to drop top projects such as "Leatherface" and "Square Root of a Kilo." But today is all about his new EP "Triangle D'or," produced by the talented Drega33.
The project kicks off with "Quinconces," where drumless RJ dishes out his story about his place in the top 10 emcees. This is music that comes in with heavenly vibes. Next comes "Paris Attack," again without drums, where he warns us not to anger the Lord as he blesses us with these salty tracks.
"Brings to Me" continues to embrace chipmunk soul, and RJ compares his flow to the power of cocaine. This is deep, man. On "Coffee or Tea," you get the feeling that the whole world is finally waking up and discovering RJ Payne's pure dope.
The second half of "Triangle D'or" kicks off with "Elegant Payne," in which RJ immediately puts the competition in their place. Lyrically, he is entire fields ahead of other rappers. "Splendid" stays in the same vibe, warning with something akin to a chipmunk soul sound not to cover the red carpet with DNA if anyone dares to thwart him. And then we have "Final Boss," a closing track without drums in which RJ sturdily declares that his soul is not for sale and his hunger is unmatched.
After the fourth installment of the "Leatherface" saga a few weeks ago, Drega33 once again shows his production magic. "Triangle D'or" is honestly one of RJ's saltiest works I've heard in a while. The production is littered with the characteristic drumless chipmunk soul sounds, and RJ's bars are unmistakably his familiar International Payne energy. And if you think it ends here, get ready: a collab with none other than Method Man is coming soon. Score? A well-deserved 8/10.
If you want to know more about RJ's music and his place within the hip-hop scene, stay sharp and check out his projects. Who knows, maybe he'll know how to salt your playlist with his next-level tracks too!
