Life on the Grind

1995. You have a run-down little room, no job, no reputation, and a dream that no one takes seriously. Life on the Grind is a turn-based life sim in which you work your way up week by week: looking for work, paying the rent, making beats, handing out demos, securing airplay, and making sure people start to recognize your name.

The entire game takes place in two cities. Grind City is your own neighborhood—the bodega, the pawn shop, the Cypher Spot, the Beat Factory. Big City That's where the big money is, with Terminal 23 and ROTZ Records. And if you look closely, you can see the Hou Het Zout club right there in the city.

What's Inside

So in the game, you’ll find Grind City and Big City, but you can also head over to the HHZ Studio for a demo drop and to listen to HHZ Radio! A visit to DRT is definitely worth it, too—and afterward, you can head down to the Arcade to try out our HHZ pinball machine or play another game. Or you can head over to Terminal 23 for a drink. All in all, we think there are plenty of fun things to discover.

Everything is presented in the familiar Hou Het Zout art style, with a street art vibe that perfectly captures the spirit of the era the music comes from.

Online Multiplayer

You're not playing on your own. Online multiplayer is included—and it's free, too. It's really simple and always fun to play on the go. One of you hosts the game, and the other enters the game code that the first player receives. Done! Start the battle and see which one of you can reach their goals first! Go for it!

Where do you play it?

You can play at lotg.houhetzout.nl — Free, right in your browser, no installation required, and no account needed.
