T.F. cashes game with DJ Muggs’ Don't Call Me Lucky

T.F. has salted the game again in a big way with his latest album ‘Don't Call Me Lucky,’ produced by the legendary DJ Muggs. This collaboration is so salty it's unbelievable how dope! The album is a masterpiece that surpasses his previous releases such as ‘Blame Kansas’ and ‘The Green Bottle’.

The title track opens with an ominous boom bap beat and wonders if his mandatory therapy sessions were luck or faith. ‘Water Whip’ featuring Rome Streetz aggressively discusses everything about them. ‘Clap’ with Ghostface Killah has a vintage 70’s vibe and spits that gangsta shit together. ‘The Scorpion Sting’ returns to boom bap and talks about the squad fitting into picture frames.

‘Reese's Pieces’ featuring Meyhem Lauren and O.T. the Real brings the trio together to make it clear that there is nothing sweet about them. ‘Ya Heard’ with Roc Marciano discusses soulfully about people ripping you off for your diamonds and gold. ‘Cha Cha Chicken’ has a haunting vibe and talks about cooking crack rocks, right before the horn-infused ‘Pool Sports’ which reaches the middle of the album and talks about being on top with the bars.

After an interlude, ‘Money in the Wall’ with Heartbreak JC discusses drumless about people dying every day over chains and social media posts. ‘Luchador’ speaks angrily about possibly crashing the surface by living so fast. ‘$100 Bill’ talks raw about breaking bread and interpolates the iconic Prodigy song ‘Keep It Thoro’ during the hook. ‘Star Studded’ talks about daydreaming over an accelerated soul sample.

‘El Sancho’ closes out the final moments of ‘Don't Call Me Lucky’ by comparing himself to WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg's portrayal of Rodney in ‘Baby Boy,’ directed by the late John Singleton. The final track ‘Ride Out’ featuring Boldy James makes great use of the album's final minutes by bringing the two lyricists together over a bluesy boom bap beat to talk about their respective experiences of life as gangstas from the West Coast to the Midwest.

I wasn't sure if it was possible for T.F. to top ‘Blame Kansas’ and ‘The Green Bottle,’ but ‘Don't Call Me Lucky’ proves he's only getting better with time. There are fewer guest appearances than last time, which works in his favor given how well Muggs’ signature production style fits his sharp streetwise lyricism like a glove.

This album is a must-listen for any hip-hop fan who loves pure, unadulterated bars and a salty vibe. Together, T.F. and DJ Muggs have created a masterpiece that has salted the hip-hop scene considerably.”
